SCULPTURE IN FLORENCE
ARTIST’S BIOGRAPHY:
Enrica Barozzi lives in Florence, Italy.
Her love of art began very early. After studying at the art institute, she discovered her attraction to all that has to do with very small detail, particularly framing and ornament.
On a visit to Florence she decided to make this city her second home, fascinated by the masters who throughout the years have made it beautiful and unique. Here she began to work and experiment in various workshops, inspired by Renaissance art . She worked ably in many techniques such as carving, gilding, restoration of antique sculpture as well as remodelling old frame styles in new and unusual ways revealing her love of detail in a scroll here, an acanthus leaf there.
After several years she found her style while working with a small peice of wood from which her first sculpture was born. From there her style grew to encompass larger, more elaborate sculptures in which one feels the power and the force which reaches up to the heavens.
Through different materials and subjects her work is reminiscent of artists such as Giambologna, the Della Robbia family as well as contemporary artists.
When she was little, Enrica thought she had been found under a small tree, as said the song her father dedicated to her. Perhaps this explains her great passion for wood carving. Enrica loves woods, from which she takes inspiration for her creations and from which she picks up roots which she later transforms into sculptures. Only in the woods can she be free and forget any other thought.
AWARDS:
In 2010 she won the second prize for “Adamo ed Eva” in Montecatini Terme.
In 2009 she won the ” First absolute prize” for Nereide to the city of Montecatini Terme.
In both 2007 and 2008, she won prizes at the international sculpture competition “Premio Italia” for visual arts, making her a promising figure in contemporary sculpture.
In 2007, she participated in the international sculpture competition “XXV Premio Firenze” where she won the highest honor from the city, the Fiorino d’Oro, with her sculpture “Scutum”, a delicate and very personal synthesis of her development thus far. Made from chestnut wood with accents in bronze, it is a shining, innovative and courageous work of art.
